Breeders Incentive

  1. Breeder/Nominator Payback. The nominator of the Breeding Entry shall be awarded a payback equal to 10% of the point value earned to that entry at National, Regional and Local Shows, or at designated non-show events (except Arabian Community Shows) provided all Sweepstakes requirements are met. Payback money will be paid to the original nominator of the Breeding Entry. The Breeding Entry need not be entered into the Points Payback Program in order to pay the original nominator.
  2. Nominated Sire Payback. The owner of a Nominated Sire shall be awarded a payback equal to 5 percent of the Allocated Prize Money awarded and point values earned to each of the sire's offspring as a Breeding Entry at National, Regional and Local Shows or designated non-show events provided that the Nominated Sire is enrolled in Sweepstakes as a Nominated Sire at the time of the shows or events. (Nominated Sire Payback only pertains to Nominated Sires enrolled prior to December 31, 2009).

Two Prize Money Programs

  1. The Points Payout will award horses based on points earned in designated Sweepstakes classes at local, regional and national shows and rides throughout the calendar year. Approximately 55 percent of total collected funds will go into the Points pool. Total points earned each year in designated Sweepstakes classes and rides will be divided into the Points pool to arrive at a per point figure. An annual enrollment payment of $100 per horse is required to participate in the Sweepstakes Points Program.
  2. The Allocated Payout is paid to Top Five and Top Ten horses in Designated Sweepstakes Classes at Regional and National shows. Approximately 25 percent of the total collected funds go to regional shows and 20 percent to national shows. Based on historical percentages of nominations, 65 percent of allocations are for Arabians and 35 percent are for Half-Arabians/Anglo-Arabians. Placings at Regional and National shows will be paid accordingly:
    30 percent   Champion
    20 percent   Reserve Champion
50 percent   Remaining Top Five or Top Ten
The 50 percent payout for Top Ten will be divided equally among the remaining eight or 50 percent of the class. The Top Five payout will be divided equally among the remaining three or 50 percent of the class.
  3. Sweepstakes Prize Payout. Prize money at the National, Regional, Local Shows and designated events will be paid only to the party whose name appears on a horse's Certificate of Registration on December 31 of the year the prize money is earned. Checks for prize money shall be mailed after December 31 of each year, not later than 60 days of receipt of complete results for that year. Current AHA membership is required to receive payback.

Designated Sweepstakes Classes

  • These classes were selected from a standardized class list that makes it easy to identify, track and calculate payouts. These popular classes will not burden shows with the need to provide extra classes to their schedules. Classes were selected to encourage breeders to nominate foals; however, the program is flexible enough to include additional classes as funds become available. FAQ’s About Sweepstakes Points

What is the Sweepstakes Points Program?
This program is optional for horses when all Sweepstakes requirements are met. Sweepstakes nominated horses (horses enrolled as Breeding Entries or as Original Entries) must enroll in the Sweepstakes Point Program to be eligible for prize money payout for accumulated points in Sweepstakes designated classes at National, Regional and Local Shows and events.

How do I enroll?
Download a form here online or call a Competition Program Representative at 303-696-4500 and register via phone. Be sure to complete the enrollment prior to the first event in which you intend to earn Payback points.

When should I enroll?
Enrollments must be paid, postmarked/electronic transaction dated to the AHA office prior to points being earned. Any points won before the payment of the $100 enrollment fee will not be paid.

How are points calculated?
Sweepstakes Payback Points are calculated just as Qualification points are. You will receive one point for each horse that you beat in the event, plus one for yourself. Points will be paid to 6th place at the Local level, 5th place at the Regional level and 10th place at the National level. Regional and National Points are awarded based on the 50% rule.

What classes allow me to earn points?

How do I know if my show is offering Sweepstakes classes?
You may verify the Sweepstakes status of a class by referring to your prize list. Shows are required to denote Sweepstakes classes in their prize list. If you refer to the prize list and do not find the Sweepstakes indication, then contact the Show Secretary. Let show management know that you would like to see Sweepstakes classes at their show.

Can I still enter a Sweepstakes Designated Class if I don't own a Sweepstakes-enrolled horse?
Yes. The only exception is the Yearling Sweepstakes Classes at the Regional and National Level. However, non-Sweepstakes horses will not be eligible to earn Sweepstakes prize money if they win.

Can my Sweepstakes horse earn any other prize money if I don't enroll in the Points Program?
Your horse is still eligible to earn allocated prize money in Sweepstakes Designated Classes at regional and national shows.
