Open Qualifying Shows

AHA's Open Qualifying Competition Programs allow exhibitors involved in some Open competitions to use their results to qualify for AHA Regional and National Championships.

 

AHA offers this option in the following disciplines: dressage/western dressage, working hunter/jumper/hunter hack, eventing/driving and cutting/working cow/reining/reined cow horse.

 

Note that results from eligible Open endurance and competitive trail rides can be used for qualifications without being enrolled in a qualifying program.

 

 


Fees Summary

  • Within 30 days of first competition - $50
  • After 30 days of first competition - $80

 

  • The report form must be filled out in full, including the horse's registration number and the rider's current member number.
  • In order for results to be recorded the owner and the rider both must hold current AHA competition level memberships.

Dressage/Western Dressage

Scores and participation can be used from Open Dressage/Western Dressage shows.

Results must be sent to the AHA office on the official Open Qualifying Show/Event Report Form. Copies of the applicable pages of the prize list must be included verifying the judges, show secretary & show manager as well as the show name and class list.

If the report form cannot be signed by the show secretary or manager then the following can be used as verification along with the results form:

 

  • Print out from the USEF or USDF websites of the horse's competition record with the dressage scores listed.
  • Copy of the test score sheet with attached verification of the show being sanctioned by USEF/USDF or EC.

 

Only scores of 55% or better will be recorded for Intro through 3rd Levels and only scores of 50% or better will be recorded for 4th Level and higher.

Scores from schooling shows, Kur and Musical Freestyle do not count and will not be recorded.

 

Working Hunter/Jumper/Hunter Hack

Results must be sent to the AHA office on the official Open Qualifying Show/Event Report Form. Copies of the applicable pages of the prize list must be included verifying the judges, show secretary & show manager as well as the show name and class list.

 

 

 


Classes must have a minimum of the following fence heights:

  • Jumper
    • Open - 3' 3"
    • Amateur - 3'
    • Low Jumper - 2' 9"
  • Working Hunter
    • Open - 3'
    • Amateur Owner - 2' 9"
    • Amateur - 2' 6"
    • Modified AO/AT- 2' 3"
    • Green - 2' 6"
    • 14.2 Hands and Under - 2'6" maximum
      (Known as Pony in Open Competitions)
  • Hunter Hack - 2'

 

Eventing/Trials, Combined Driving, Carriage Pleasure Driving, Driven Dressage

Eventing/Trial competitions must be sanctioned by USEF sonya bickford_Borderor EC and all Driving competition must be sanctioned by USEF, EC or ADS. Any classes not rated by USEF, EC or ADS will not count.

Results must be sent to the AHA office on the official Open Qualifying Show/Event Report Form. Copies of the applicable pages of the prize list must be included verifying the judges, show secretary & show manager as well as the show name and class list.

Cutting/Working Cow/Reining/Reined Cow Horse/Herd Work/Ranch Horse

amywilms_cutting_BorderEvents must be sanctioned by NCHA, ACHA, NRCHA or NRHA sanctioned class.

Results must be sent to the AHA office on the official Open Qualifying Show/Event Report Form. Copies of the applicable pages of the prize list must be included verifying the judges, show secretary & show manager as well as the show name and class list.


Cutting - Only the following classes will count for AHA qualifications:

  • Cutting Horse
  • Cutting Horse Non Pro
  • Cutting Horse Novice up to $5000
  • Cutting Horse Novice Non Pro
